Hans SCHMITZ - 9 signierte Linolschnitte 1921-1927 (9 signed linocuts 1921-1927)

9 linocuts on laid paper, various plate sizes, sheet size 36 x 28 cm each. All sheets signed by the artist. Orange cardboard folder with linocut "Fallen Man" on the title. On the folder wing numbered 63/100 and with table of contents. Double page with an introductory text and a photograph of a sculpture by Schmitz on the frontispiece. Published by Galerie Werner Kunze, Berlin 1972.
The portfolio contains the following linocuts: 1. Porträt Seiwert (Portrait Seiwert, 1924), 2. Arbeiterausbildung (Worker Training, 1921), 3. Arbeiter (Worker, 1921), 4. Arbeitergang (Workers' Walk, 1922), 5. Die Masse (The Masses, 1923), 6. Arbeiterpaar (Worker Couple, 1923), 7. Arbeiterfreizeit (Workers' Leisure, 1924), 8. Sitzende (Sitting Woman, 1927), 9. Gefallener (Fallen Man, 1927).

Hans Schmitz belonged to the „Gruppe progressiver Künstler Köln“ (Group of Progressive Artists Cologne, also known as "Kölner Progressive"). The group was founded in 1923 by Heinrich Hoerle, Franz Wilhelm Seiwert and Gerd Arntz and counted among its wider circle artists such as Otto Freundlich, Augustin Tschinkel, Gottfried Brockmann and the photographer August Sander. The Cologne Progressives formally combined their political and social concerns with strictly constructive principles.
