ABOUT BRAUNER'S WORK : VICTOR BRAUNER (1903-1966) : "Untitled", for Brunidor Portfolio Number 2, 1947-1952
Etching and aquatint diptych with hand coloring in watercolor by Brauner himself, 1947. (170x127 mm each), full margins. Signed, dated and numbered 67/110 in pencil, lower left. From the same-titled portfolio. A perfect impression of this scarce print, with the water-coloring fresh like at the first day. Outer margins browned by the ad-cidity of the old protective glassine paper.
Note : We have found only 4 or 5 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years.

Brauner's justified engraving 34/110 was entirely watercolored by the artist himself. Our proof has never been exposed or framed, it has kept the full freshness of its original colors laid down by the painter's brush.

Victor Brauner (1903-1966) was a French Romanian painter and sculptor closely-tied to Surrealism. He studied in Bucharest early on and in the mid-1920s moved to Paris. He met and was mentored by the fellow-Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi, who also introduced him to Yves Tanguy (see lots 480 and 481). Through Tanguy, Brauner became associated with the Surrealist movement and became a copntributor to the magazine Unu, an avant-garde publication which had Dadaist and Surrealist leanings. In 1934, Brauner had his first Parisian solo exhibition.
